Alternative Girls Night Out

Lulu Le Vay, Oct 2017

Ladies, if you want a night out that doesn’t have to follow the conventional cocktails, dinner and dancing formula, then let us guide through the most fun alternative girls’ night out you can have in London. But, you’ll have to ditch the heels. Are you ready?

Women’s boxing

The Golden Girl boxing gym in Euston offers boxing for women that provides sessions and training for those who wish to escape the wimpy boxercise classes on offer at local gyms. These classes are delivered by professional boxing coaches, who not only teach boxing skills, but deliver sessions that burn more calories than you can shake an almond croissant at. You can drop in for a one-off session with your gal pals and hit some bags before you hit the town.

Gin tasting

Forgot Cosmos, they’re soooo yesterday. It’s now all about gin. Whether in a class G&T or a gin Martini. Danish gin distillery Jensen’s in Bermondsey is a great spot to take the girls for gin tasting and a tour. Jensen’s gin is a recreation of London gin, but with extra delicate florals and citrus flavours. Open on market days, Saturday 10-4 and Sunday 11-4. Distillery tours can be arranged on request.

Secret Cinema

Going to a movie with popcorn with your pals just isn’t going to cut it. However, going to Secret Cinema definitely will. Launched in 2007, this immersive cinema experience has changed the face of cinema-going. Classic cinema is re-enacted through a participatory world – yes, that’s you – a refreshing alternative to screens and our modern obsession with technology. Sign up to get information on the next showing. No popcorn allowed.

Try something different and take the girls out to a Scrabble night. Hell, you can even go after your gin tasting, might make it interesting. Shake up your usual routine and embrace the wordsmith within. The London Scrabble Meet Up group holds events at the Royal Festival Hall and the Woolwich Equitable pub in south London once a month. A great opportunity to meet some interesting new people.

It was my mom's birthday yesterday and when I asked her what she wanted to do, she said let's have picnic lunch, a game of Scrabble and go out shopping for mums. So that's what we did. 💕 💐💐💠💠I love having my sister and parents close by. I don't see them everyday but we talk often and help each other out whenever we can. Most of my siblings are spread out across the USA and UK but we had somewhat of a family reunion this summer and it was awesome. 💢You may wonder if I snapped a photo of my mom for this post. Negative. I'd probably be grounded! 💢 After lunch and Scrabble – we don't keep track of points- we went out for flowers. We had to go to a few shops before finding what we needed here. Fairview Garden Center has a nice selection of mums, hanging plants, succulents and pumpkins and we got to see Brad the Scarecrow. I should have picked up a few mums for me while we were there!! They are having a fashion show on Oct 26 with hors d'oeuvres and wine. I signed my neighbor up to model. Hope she's okay with that. 👒👢 📷: @karinarcherjohnson
