Amanda Gegg, December 2017
Just in case anyone hadn’t noticed, Christmas is well and truly upon us. Consequently, there is no better way to spend your festive free time than immersing yourself in what London has to offer. Whether you’re a lover of Christmas markets – we do have them here too, you know – or even just wrapping up warm for some mulled wine with your friends, our capital has something for everyone. Of course, we have the annual events that locals and tourists have come to know and love, but we also have some exciting new ones popping up too, so here is your guide to making the most out of the 2017 winter season…
Winter Wonderland, Hyde Park
There’s a reason you can’t walk through London at Christmas time without hearing about Winter Wonderland – because it’s awesome. Never has there been a more picture-perfect place to meet up with your friends (or even set up a first date) and believe me when I tell you, you won’t be short of things to do.
Christmas in Leicester Square
If you’re looking for something slightly different in the way of Christmas festivals (but no less atmospheric) then Leicester Square have come up with their own little piece of yuletide fun, consisting of delicious winter food stalls, traditional fairground rides and Santa’s Grotto.
Skate at Somerset House
London’s most famous ice rink is back, this time with the addition of their ‘Skate Lates’ where you and your friends can dance the night away in front of this stunning neoclassical building. Well, try to dance without falling over anyway.
Southbank Christmas Market
For anyone who loves a traditional European feel to their Christmas markets then Southbank has their very own version, where you can sample euro-inspired winter cuisine in front of the backdrop of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.
Roof East, Stratford
If any of you are on the lookout for an up and coming trendy winter festival then you needn’t look any further than Roof East, where you can try your hand at curling or even dine out in your very own igloo.
London Bridge City Christmas Market
Slightly more traditional than other events on this list, the London Bridge Christmas Market has a strong focus on food which isn’t surprising seeing as it is situated right next to world-famous culinary source, Borough Market.
