7 things to do in Amsterdam to embrace your inner kid

By Lauren Harmes

Whatever your reasons for visiting Amsterdam, it’s always fun to indulge in some ‘kidult’ activities and take part in some good, wholesome fun. Luckily, there are endless enjoyable things to do in The Dam, and we have chosen our favorites to share with you.

Funbase

What kid didn’t love those huge ball pits your family took you to for what seemed like hours? Well now you can revisit those narnias of play in Amsterdam at Funbase.

A true indoor playground for big kids, this huge arena also has board games, video games as well as a zen room for when all that playing gets a bit much!

Ride a bike

Riding a bike is like…well…riding a bike! Even if you haven’t hopped on since you were a child, it will all come flooding back in Amsterdam – the cycling capital of the world!

Bikes are the most common way to get around the city, so make like a local and hire a few bicycles to soak up that Amsterdam atmosphere.

Artis Royal Zoo

Experience the wonder you felt as child when seeing animals for the first time at Holland’s oldest zoo. Check out the beautiful creatures in the Butterfly Pavilion, take a space trip in the Planetarium or just wander around the zoo with one of their guided tours. Whatever you pick, this will be a day you won’t forget.

GlowGolf

Looking for something a bit more unusual to release your inner child? Then GlowGolf might just be it. An intergalactic, glow-in-the-dark mini-golf experience will certainly up the fun ante! All kidulted out? You can round it off with a burger and a beer afterwards!

A’DAM Lookout

If you’re channelling some serious daredevil vibes, how about a ride on Europe’s highest swing? At almost 100 metres high, you will enjoy the best views of Amsterdam while enjoying a real adrenaline rush! Not feeling so brave? You can just chill on the 360-degrees sky deck of the A’DAM Tower.

Locked Amsterdam

Escape the Room games have had a huge surge in popularity over the last few years, but this is one of the most exciting experiences we have come across.

Whether you’re solving the mystery of a missing Soviet-submarine in a journalist’s abandoned office or thwarting the mighty Liebermann family and preventing chaos and misery, this exhilarating challenge will be a highlight of your trip.

Spend a day at the beach

While this is definitely more of a summer activity, it deserves a mention on our list. Despite canals being the main acquatic focal point of The Dam, just 15 minutes from the center is Zandvoort beach. Bring your spades and buckets, bats and balls and soak up the rays the old fashioned way!
